LG shine wont Detect Micro SD

Hi there, i have recently been given my parents old LG shine as a temporary phone. Although being a good phone i have come to detect a problem. When i insert my 8Gb Micro SD Memory Card nothing happens and the phone just doesn't seem to want to detect it. I have tried formatting the memory card several times but it still doesn't work :/ Please could you help me get my micro SD card working asap as i use it to store music and what not. Hi there, I thought the LG Shine only had a capacity to hold memory cards with capacity of up to 2 Gb`s ??????
That maybe your problem?
